The Tamil movie "Manikarnika" (directed by Shree Narayan Singh) released in December 2018 screened in cinema halls across the world on the occasion of Diwali. The film was produced by Guddu Dhanoa with a budget of over Rs 5 crore with its target audience being women and children across India. However, with just one day to go for its release, the makers faced issues as they were being pulled up by 4 different organizations with supposedly prohibited subtitles. This decision was taken on behalf of these groups who say they are mandated to protect children from checking out content which is not suitable for them. These organizations are the Federation of Indian Cine Technicians, Associations of Cine Employees, Cinematographers Association and Directors Union. The groups have communicated to Udta Punjab director Abhishek Chaubey via the film industry body, Film Federation of India about their decision. The movie has been banned in wake of the letter stating that the movie ‘contains objectionable scenes that are likely to affect the law and order situation’. It will be interesting to see how this develops as it is released on 27th December 2018. The film was also supposed to release in Telugu with Darshan's production house releasing it but now with all these issues arising they might shelve this plan entirely.
